I say go for free old school type games. Try Marathon, the predecessor to Halo.

Just download the latest version of AlephOne here:
AlephOne is the emulator for the games, the thing that let’s you play the old files. It’s the middle set of boxes on the website, make sure to choose the correct one for your operating system.

Next, download Marathon from the same place. It’s the first box, the one with the word Marathon on it.

After that, you’ll need to unzip both of the files you’ve downloaded. Then duplicate the AlephOne application and put it in the Marathon file. Finally, open AlephOne (the one in the marathon file) and start playing.

You may want to check the controls in the preferences before you start playing. I set move forward to ‘w’ backward to ’s’ sidestep left and right to ‘a’ and ‘d’ and trigger with the mouse button and 2nd trigger with the left mouse button. Make sure to turn on mouse control, unless you have a laptop and want to play with only the keyboard. Also, set the graphics to full screen mode, and a higher resolution.

Also, there are other scenarios (like the second and third marathon, durandal and infinity) that you can download and put the alephone app into. You may want to try some of these.

And there ya go. Have fun! If you have trouble, there should be places online that tell you how to do it.
